Upcoming Events—20 May 2013

David has sent this gentle nudge for the National Club Relays in August and more:

“Hi Guys we enjoyed pleasant weather for the monthly club ride yesterday when our bovine handling skills were put to the test! Full report and picture courtesy of Elizabeth soon to appear on Club website....take a look!

Final reminder that I need to be formalising entries for national Club Relays , at present I have 11 names from interested parties. This is a fun event , (although taken seriously by some of the clubs) we go to enjoy the atmosphere, chat but still aim to do our best! The current plan is to enter teams (mixed and single sex) in the Saturday races so that we can all support each other. If you have not already done so please drop me a note if interested in taking part. I really need details by end of May please lest I am too late to get our preferred entry.

Finally Gary has just forwarded me details of a local cycle sportif on Sunday 9th June with either a 50 or 100 km option based around the Peak District. Route will be pre-marked, food stations provided etc. Full details to be found at St. Anselm's Foundation Bike Ride, e-mail siobhan@firstascent.co.uk. See you all soon, David”

Sunday Ride Report—20 May 2013

Elizabeth sends this report from the Sunday ride:

“We had a lovely scenic club ride today, consisting of Phil, Trish, Jo, David and Elizabeth. The weather was great considering all the recent wind and rain. It was nice to have a chat and a catch up with other members and meet and get to know Jo.

The ride as a whole was without drama until we were almost back at base and came across a mother and baby cow who had escaped and were heading towards a main road. We caught up to them and Phil who seemed to be familiar with the local livestock(!) ... headed off to alert the farmer. David and I were leading the group and reached the cows first and decided to help a passing policeman to herd them through a gate to safety. David was very suave and used his bike as a barrier to block the cattle in a stylish manner which would have made 007 proud. I decided to ditch the bike and hop around on cleats whilst flapping my arms like a chicken!! The cows ran away from the demented looking woman doing the chicken dance and went safely off into the distance. We have renamed ourselves the Bovine Bikers! I don't think the Montana cowboys will be calling on us any time soon. Back at Tideswell it was a shame that the cafes were closed and we couldn't treat ourselves to refreshments. Had we been nearer Buxworth I would have made Starbrooks as I call it as I have a cappuccino machine. Trish is going to draw up a schedule of possible club social ride dates for the summer season. Thanks to David for leading todays ride.”

Wilmslow Triathlon Report—14 May 2013

David Davidson sends the following report from the Wilmslow Triathlon:

“Wilmslow Tri on Sunday 12th May featured 10 club members, which is probably a record turn out. In addition several highly vocal supporters and non-competing club members added their encouragement despite the cold, windy and wet conditions that prevailed. It was great to have such support and encouragement which was much appreciated by all club competitors. A well organised event which started with a frisky 400-metre pool based dash leading to a well set out and generous transition immediately outside the pool. The challenging conditions called for some degree of caution on the wet and slippery roads. Several sections were pretty bumpy requiring careful navigation and concentration around the worst of the potholes although the route itself was scenic passing through some very attractive Cheshire villages. On arriving back at transition after the 24 km ride a well marshalled undulating 6.3 km run followed eventually returning the competitors to the Leisure Centre which was a very welcome sight given the challenging conditions throughout. Within the overall finishing times for the club members Nigel Critchlow was first home just edging out David Heathcote by seconds both finishing in a very commendable time of 1hr 19min. When Paul Whyte stormed into the finish shute in 1.24 he was greeted by plenty of cheering from all supporters and still looked fresh enough to do another lap. David Davidson, Simon Cocksey, Simon Corbett and Phil Shaw all completed the event in similar times of approximately 1.29. Finally Andrew Kirkland, Darren Ward and Andy Copley, all relatively new to Triathlon competition, finished in very creditable times (1.35–1.38) and appeared to have enjoyed the experience. Grateful thanks to all who took the trouble to support High Peak Tri Club members on what was a pretty miserable day but one which all competitors ‘enjoyed’ having completed the friendly event.”

Casual Kit Order—13 May 2013

Krissie Ivings is about to order some casual kit, like hoodies, t-shirts and baseball caps. Please see Krissie's email below.

We now have all logos sorted and can press ahead with ordering our hoodies, t–shirts & baseball caps. I am planning to put the kit order at the end of next week. So the deadline for orders is evening of THURSDAY 16th MAY 2013. This will ensure people have the kit for the early season races.

2–Tone Hoodies—available in kids and adults sizes: Aged 8 years to XXL. The club colours are predominantly blue (logo) or black/grey/red (technical kit) so I am limiting the choice to club colours that will show up the logo. And a small enough range to make the hoody recognisable as ours. So the colour choices are: Arctic White with Navy (not available for kids but if kids really like white, they can have a hot-pink trim instead. This is the only colour option for the white kid's hoodie); Heather Grey with Navy; Fire Red with Black. See pictures below, though please note that for some reason the red one does not show the black lining & drawcords, but shows orange instead! The hoody will be priced at £24.00 (adult) and £18.00 (kids)

T–shirts—Available in Men's, Women's and Children's styles/sizes. Prices £16:00 (Adults) £10.00 (Kids). Colours as above: Heather Grey, Fire Red and Arctic White.

Baseball Caps—Prices £8:00 (No logo). Colours: Heather Grey, Fire Red, and Arctic White.
